Velyatino (in 1947-2018 - Veliatyn) is a village in Ukraine, in the Khust district of the Zakarpattia region. Velyatyno is located on the left bank of the Tysa River, 5 kilometers from the district center of Khust. The area of the village without the surrounding agricultural land is 403 hectares (1996 data). In 1998, the area of the village's economic territory was 871 hectares. According to 1996 data, the population of the village amounted to 4651 (currently 4580) people, of which by ethnic composition: 4577 Ukrainians and a small number of representatives of other nationalities: Bashkirs, Belarusians, Armenians, Moldovans, Germans, Russians, Tatars, Hungarians, and Jews.

For many generations, the village of Velyatyno has been passing on a folk legend about the leader of the opryshky, Pintya, who was nicknamed the Giant for his heroic strength. The legend describes how Pintya destroyed a stone fortress belonging to the lords, the Khust Castle, with a shot from a wooden cannon.

The people of Velyatyn believe that this fateful shot was fired from the local mountain Chebryn. According to the legend, the village itself was founded not by anyone, but by Pintya the Giant himself. That is why it was named "Velyatino" in his honor.

According to another version, Velyatyno was founded by the first settlers who were hiding from serfdom in the local impenetrable forests. These courageous and proud rebels were called giants. Hence the name Veliatyno.

The forests grow mainly oak, beech, linden, ash, and hornbeam. Wild cherries and bushes of various berries are often found on the mountain slopes. The forests are rich in mushrooms - mushrooms, chanterelles, boletus, mustard, boletus. People catch crucian carp, pike, gudgeon, merengue, and, if they are lucky, catfish in the yew tree.

The village has preserved the number of buffaloes of the "Carpathian population". Back at the end of the last millennium, the Velyatyn herd consisted of about fifty buffaloes, originally from Southeast Asia. Sixty breeding females of the productive Murrah breed and several elite young buffaloes from Azerbaijan were brought here to breed rare animals. Just like in their distant historical homeland, the animals like to spend time in puddles, where they hide from annoying parasites. Buffalo milk is very healthy.

There are several thermal and mineral springs in Velyatyn. Another interesting source of fresh water is located at an altitude of 621 meters, locals call it Panska Krynytsia. It is located on the current neutral zone of the border between Ukraine and Romania. It is worth mentioning such well-known springs as Lemachkova and Pintova wells.

Not far from the village is the resort village of Shayan, which is known for its mineral waters with healing properties (Shayanska).
