Kibler Brewery at the PUBLO complex, Vyshkovo

Vyshkovo, Zakarpattia region, Ukraine

Kibler Brewery is the in-house brewery of the PUBLO hotel and restaurant complex in Vyshkovo, Khust district. Its copper brewing kettles stand right in the hall behind the bar, so guests can see where the beer in their glass is born. The live beer «Kibler» is brewed using classic methods and only natural ingredients, and the range mixes German classics with modern craft styles. If you are looking for a craft brewery in Zakarpattia near Khust, it is a handy stop on the road along the Tysa.

Vyshkovo is a small town on the Tysa river by the Romanian border, where the Carpathians give way to the Transcarpathian lowland. The brewery occupies a separate timber-and-glass pavilion within the complex, next to a small SPA hotel.

Why go

The brewery itself invites visitors to drop by and taste — it is a place to sit next to the copper kettles and try several beers brewed on the spot. Things worth doing:

  • a Kibler beer tasting — from a soft Bavarian lager to a strong imperial stout;
  • a look at the copper brewhouse standing right in the hall;
  • an overnight stay at the complex’s SPA hotel (8 rooms, sauna, salt room, jacuzzi, pool, mineral-water pump room), so you do not need to drive after the tasting;
  • a game of tennis — the complex has the «Roger» tennis club.

What to try

The current line-up, according to the brewery’s website:

  • Bavarian (Munich Helles; OG 13%, IBU 21, ABV 5.0%) — a clean malty lager with gentle bitterness and a dry finish, made from two light malts and three German noble hops;
  • American Amber Ale (OG 14%, IBU 35, ABV 4.8%) — an amber ale with caramel flavour and the citrusy aroma of American hops;
  • Cryo NEIPA (OG 14.5%, IBU 25, ABV 5.5%) — a juicy tropical aroma thanks to dry hopping and cryo hops;
  • Hot Imperial Stout (OG 17.5%, IBU 22, ABV 7.0%) — a rich stout with cocoa beans, vanilla, cinnamon and habanero pepper, with notes of dark chocolate and coffee;
  • Whiteout (Belgian wheat; OG 12%, IBU 15, ABV 4.6%) — a refreshing ale with sweet orange peel and coriander.

Zakarpattia is best known for wine and palinka, yet brewing also has deep roots here: historians say one of the first breweries on the territory of today’s Ukraine appeared in Mukachevo in the 16th century. Small breweries such as Kibler carry on that tradition, and their beer has been a regular sight at Transcarpathian beer festivals.
