Teresva River
The Teresva forms in Ust-Chorna, where the Mokrianka and Brusturianka meet, and flows south through Dubove, Kalyny, Hanychi and Neresnytsia to the town of Teresva, where it joins the Tysa. Measured from its longest headstream, the Turbatskyi brook, the river is over 90 km long. It is a fast mountain river with clean water; there are waterfalls in the upper course, and Mount Apetska gives a view over the valley.
- Length: 56 km (90.8 km with the Brusturianka)
- Basin area: 1,225 km²
- Source: confluence of the Mokrianka and Brusturianka in Ust-Chorna
- Mouth: the Tysa near the town of Teresva
On the Teresva’s tributaries — the Mala and Velyka Uholka and the Luzhanka — lies the Uholka–Shyrokyi Luh massif of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve with its primeval beech forests. A narrow-gauge railway once ran along the valley from Teresva to Ust-Chorna; almost nothing of it remains today.
Ichthyologists have recorded 42 fish species and one lamprey in the Teresva. Brown trout are among the most numerous fish in the upper course and tributaries; lower down anglers catch chub, and in the lower course pike and perch. Danube salmon, grayling, barbel and nase are in the Red Book. The spawning ban runs from 25 March to 15 May, but on two stretches near Neresnytsia and Dubove the patrol allowed bank fishing. Details are in the fishing section. All the region’s waters are on the Fishing in the Carpathians page.

Can I fish now?
- Brown trout — closed until 1 MarchTrout spawning: closed from 10 October to 1 March in the Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv and Chernivtsi regions. Each illegally caught fish costs UAH 7,225 in damages on top of the fine.
- Other species — allowed within the daily limitKeep to the minimum sizes and the daily limit; release protected species.
Limits and rules
During the 2026 spawning ban the patrol allowed bank fishing from the road bridge in Neresnytsia upstream to the Hanychi sign, and from the exit of Kalyny upstream to the footbridge in Dubove. The mouth near the town of Teresva is on the border river Tysa, so the border strip may apply there.
Ust-Chorna ichthyological reserve
Near Ust-Chorna the local Ust-Chorna ichthyological reserve, created in 1990 to protect salmonid spawning grounds, is the only one of its kind in the Teresva basin. Its regulations are not published, so check the fishing regime with the Zakarpattia fisheries patrol. On the Mala and Velyka Uholka and the Luzhanka tributaries lies the Uholka–Shyrokyi Luh massif of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve — there, fishing is only possible at the reserve’s trout farm.
