Private museum-estate of Hutsul art of the Korneliuk family, Kosiv
In the small town of Kosiv, there is a private museum of the Korneliuk family (26 Hoholya St.), established in 2006. The museum presents an exhibition of art objects of the Hutsul people. The museum is located in the courtyard of the Korneliuks' estate. The Korneliuk dynasty, their relatives and friends are united by a common desire to do as much as possible for Ukraine, to give people inspiration and joy from national works, and to convey their enduring beauty to their descendants.
The museum's exposition, housed in a private house, contains a collection of Hutsul headdresses, embroidered towels, gerdans, ceramic plates, hatchets, leather bags, and household items. The Korneliuk family is known and respected not only in the Kosiv district, but also far beyond its borders. It unites a whole galaxy of masters of various types of folk crafts. For many years of their tireless work, the members of this family have become famous as the best masters of folk crafts in several areas. The museum has repeatedly participated in many national exhibitions of folk art, organized and held personal exhibitions.
The head of the family is Mykola Korneliuk (born in 1942), a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine since 1989. In the Korneliuk family, everyone creates independently, but no one copies anyone else, so the products are different, and a feature is the abundance of swallows and other shiny decorations.
Having amassed a large collection of products, the Korneliuks decided to create their own private museum. In a fairly short time, the family built a two-story building with six rooms to house the museum. The museum's collection includes more than 2,000 exhibits. The museum's hall houses many ceramic plates, about 70 Hutsul headdresses, handmade embroidered towels, gerdans, a whole gallery of Easter eggs, household items, bags, tools, etc. Mykola Onufriyovych also placed here about 60 varieties of knives, a collection of more than 100 scissors, and an interesting collection of coins, bedspreads, spindles, runners, and bedspreads.
Despite the large number of works of art, each item, each made thing is unique. One of the peculiarities of the museum collection is a large number of different jewelry made only by Hutsul folk artists. Today, the museum collection includes more than 5 thousand exhibits, each of which is handmade by members of the Korneliuk family.
The museum is visited by visitors from both Ukraine and many countries of the world. Mykola Korneliuk himself created many bags for modern stage costumes. The museum has participated in many all-Ukrainian exhibitions, as well as family personal exhibitions.
The family museum is open seven days a week, and admission is free. Mykola Korneliuk, the oldest member of the family, acts as a guide in the museum. He always wears a national costume to conduct a tour. Anyone can try on and be photographed in the same outfit.
