Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Orshivtsi
Traveling to Bukovyna from Ivano-Frankivsk, the first village on your way will be Orshivtsi. Here you can see an architectural monument of national importance - the wooden Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The church was built in 1850, although researchers tend to believe that this is more likely the year of its reconstruction, and the real date of construction is 1758, and there are certain documentary evidence for this.
The church is very similar to the neighboring churches in Dubivtsi and Oshykhliby. All of them were built in the Hutsul style, which was the most influential in this part of Bukovyna at that time.
Today the church has lost its historical appearance. As a result of reconstructions, it was clad in tin. The bell tower, the same age as the church, suffered the same fate. The log cabins were painted green, as was done in neighboring Oshykhliby. The Assumption Church is located in the very center of the village. Orshivtsi is the outermost village in the Chernivtsi region on the H-10 Chernivtsi - Ivano-Frankivsk highway, with neighboring Sniatyn only a few kilometers away. Buses from Ivano-Frankivsk and Kolomyia to Chernivtsi pass through the village. There are regular suburban buses from the town of Kitsman. The nearest railway station is in the neighboring village of Nepokorivtsi, a few kilometers away, where the Chernivtsi-Kolomyia suburban train stops.
Orshivtsi dates back to 1580 as an integral part of Kyivan Rus of the Galicia-Volyn principality. The village received its modern name in 1638 from the surname of the Moldavian lord Oresh.Orshivtsi is a village located in the Kitsman district, Chernivtsi region. The distance to the regional center is 30 km. The population is 2402 inhabitants.
