Church of St. John of Suceava, Myhovo

Today, the village of Myhove has become a local tourist center in the Chernivtsi region. A ski resort has grown here, and the surrounding mountainous nature only contributes to this. The village is also home to a magnificent example of Bukovinian wooden architecture, the Church of St. John of Suceava. The Orthodox (OCU) church in the village of Myhove, Vyzhnytsia district, is a monument of wooden sacred architecture of the early 20th century.

The first church was built in 1873, but it was too small for the growing community. In 1903 it was rebuilt and given a modern look. Unfortunately, during the restorations it lost its original appearance - its roof was covered with tin and the log cabins were painted. After the last restoration in 2009, the log cabins were restored to their natural color and the church structure was strengthened. Today it is a functioning church.

In addition to the church, it is worth visiting the ski resort of Myhovo, which is located behind the village at an altitude of 740 meters above sea level. If you continue driving further, you will see the ruins of a 19th-century blast furnace. In the past, an iron smelting plant used to operate here. It ceased its activity in the second half of the 19th century, but left behind picturesque ruins that somewhat resemble the ruins of a medieval tower.

The wooden church is located in the very center of the village of Myhovo. The most convenient way to get there is by bus from Chernivtsi or by your own car.

Openinghours: the church is open during Sunday and holiday services.
