Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Brusnitsa

According to legend, the first wooden church known in the history of the village of Barbivtsi (the historical name of the village used until 1946) was probably built in the seventeenth century on the site of an older chapel. It was a small church (apparently, it was a so-called "hut-type" church).
The organization of fundraising and materials for the construction of a new wooden church began in the early 1870s. In addition to the money from the villagers, a local woman, Maria Mokrynska, provided significant assistance for the construction of the church, who bequeathed it to be consecrated on the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The church was built in 1887and probably in the same year, but it was dedicated in December (on the 19th, on the feast of St. Nicholas (winter). After some time, the local Fr. Nestor Horetsky received a response to his request to the archives in Vienna about the history of the church's construction, and saw Mrs. Mokrynska's request to dedicate the church to the Assumption, so the church was rededicated.
The church was always functioning. At the time of Ukraine's independence, there was a conflict between supporters of the UOC of the Kyiv and Moscow Patriarchates, as a result of which the church was transferred to the latter. An architectural monument of local importance.
The church is located on the main road of the eastern part of the village, on a slope, near the buildings. The shrine is cruciform in plan, one-story, with distinctly high lanterns and tops on them. The side rafters of the nave, like the altar, are faceted in plan.
A sacristy was attached to the altar from the south, and a narrower large narthex was added to the chancel on the west side, with a boiler room at its northern wall. Outside, the walls of the church (except for the octagon of the nave and the lanterns) are covered with horizontal raised timber. Almost all the windows were replaced with plastic ones. An old wooden two-tiered bell tower has been preserved to the northwest of the church, and a new brick one with extensions has been built to the south.

The name Brusnytsia (Barbivtsi) comes from the Latin word barbus, which means a mustachioed fish. The local population, contrary to this, says that the name was formed from the surname Barbir. The first written mention of the village of Barbivtsi dates back to 1558.

The creation of the museum was preceded by a difficult search, research work, and a public council headed by a history teacher, Honored Worker of Culture of the Ukrainian SSR, a native of Brusnytsia, Zakhariy Mykhailiuk. In total, more than 1100 museum items were collected.

Since 1967, the Brusnytsia health resort has been operating in the village. It is based on the Brusnytsia mineral water deposit. The sanatorium treats the musculoskeletal system (arthrosis, osteochondrosis, hernia, polyarthritis, rheumatism), gastrointestinal tract (peptic ulcer, gastritis, pancreatitis), diseases of the nervous system, diseases of the female genital organs (especially infertility and inflammation) and diseases of the cardiovascular system.

The founder and head of the sanatorium is the Honored Doctor of Ukraine, Dmytro Ilyich Boyko.

The Regional Council is constantly looking for ways to develop the sanatorium complex.

In the XIX century, a park was laid out, which is now a monument of landscape art called Brusnitsky Park. The park is home to trees of different ages and composition, arranged in individual specimens, small groups and in the form of alleys. The relief of the park is flat, and there is a small pond on its territory. The exotic trees include Weymouth pine, common spruce, western thuja, small-leaved linden, horse chestnut, and others. The park is of sanitary, hygienic, health, and aesthetic importance as a balneological factor of the Brusnitsky Water Treatment Center.
