Mykhailo Strutynskyi Museum of Folk Art
The Mykhailo Strutynskyi Museum of Folk Art is one of the places to visit while in Kosiv, Ivano-Frankivsk region. Located in the premises of the city's music school, where it occupies 2 large halls and a corridor, the institution was founded on the basis of a private collection of traditional clothing collected by local musician Mykhailo Strutynskyi. Here you can admire the variety of Ukrainian folk costumes and take pictures in some of them as a souvenir. However, in addition to clothing, the collection has many more interesting exhibits that will certainly attract the attention of visitors and arouse their admiration.
The exposition features a large number of works by folk artists from Hutsul, Pokuttya, Podillia, and Bukovyna - ancient icons, sacred art objects, embroidery, painting, ceramics, folk clothes, weaving, and much more, numbering about 10 thousand pieces, which are represented by numerous religious, ceremonial, household, and clothing items.
The M. Strutynskyi Art and Ethnographic Museum of Folk Art occupies an honorable place among the cultural and artistic institutions of Kosiv region. Since 1961, it has been collecting samples of Ukrainian embroidery, Hutsul household items, and artistic works of painting. Mykhailo Strutynskyi is a man of many talents and abilities. The Mykhailo Strutynskyi Museum of Folk Art was opened in 2007, when a teacher at the Kosiv Music School donated his collection to the city.
The age criteria of the embroideries in the collector's exposition make it possible to explore the peculiarities of the cultural and ideological traditions of the inhabitants of the Carpathian region. The collection of paintings is also very valuable and unique. Original household items made of wood and artistically decorated with the technique of "burning" and "artistic carving" stand out: spindles, boklags, counters, barrels, chests. The museum also has a collection of leather goods (stilts, boots, bags, belts, jewelry), which are distinguished by their shape and ornamentation.
The most striking feature of the Strutynsky Museum's exposition is the collection of embroidered shirts representing different regions of Ukraine. The museum has about ten thousand of them. Another highlight of the museum is musical instruments: a variety of flutes and violins, trembitas and cymbals. One of the exhibits of the Mykhailo Strutynskyi Museum of Folk Art is a loom, which is used during master classes. In addition to weaving, they organize master classes in basket weaving and needlework (for example, sewing wedding wreaths).
You can get to the Mykhailo Strutynskyi Museum of Folk Art in Kosiv by car or public transport. By car From Ivano-Frankivsk: take the H10 highway to Kolomyia, then the P24 highway to Kosiv. From Chernivtsi: take the H10 highway, in Zabolotiv turn left onto the T0904 and go to Kosiv. Buses to Kosiv from Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Lviv, Kyiv, Odesa, and other cities. By train, you can get to Ivano-Frankivsk, Yaremche, Vorokhta, and then by local buses to Kosiv. From the Kosiv bus station, head north along Heavenly Hundred Street. At the intersection with Nezalezhnosti Street, turn right and after 200 meters turn right again, onto Tykhova Street.
