Manyava is a small village in the Bohorodchany district of Ivano-Frankivsk region, 27 kilometers from the district center. The population is about 3.5 thousand people. According to researchers, the village was founded on the territory of one of the oldest settlements in the Carpathians. The locals have a lot to be proud of, as the village of Manyava is home to the famous 17th-century Manyava Skete (a small secluded monastery founded by monk Job Knyahynytskyi, a native of Athos), the Blessed Stone with a healing spring 380 meters from the monastery, and the Manyava Waterfall (16-20 meters high, the highest waterfall in the Gorgany massif and one of the largest waterfalls in Ukraine). Every year, Manyava becomes a place of pilgrimage for thousands of thirsty souls.
село Манява і околиці
Manyava is a place of spiritual strength and rebirth. The name of the village comes from the word "at random". There is an ancient legend. Back in the days of Kyivan Rus, when the mountains were truly wild and inaccessible, two monks set out on a journey from the Kyiv Cave Monastery. They were looking for the holy land, and they walked for a long time in the heat, rain, and strong winds. They walked at random until they came to a cozy and quiet forest. Peace and tranquility settled in the souls of the travelers, but there was one "but": the monks were very thirsty. They turned to the Lord in silent and sincere prayer. And a miracle happened! Real water flowed from the stone, which meant that the place was truly holy. This was the miracle that has been living in the hearts of every resident of the "small island of unwavering faith and love" among the picturesque Carpathians for centuries.
The history of the village goes back to antiquity, which is practically impossible to reproduce either in written or physical sources. Only oral traditions slightly open the veil and give a complete understanding of the past. The first to give a clear explanation of the name of the people who lived in the Carpathian region was the Byzantine historian Procopius of Casaria, who called them "Sclavins" and showed the geography of their distribution. Contemporaries quite clearly indicate the place of settlement of Slavs and Ants of the Slavic tribes, who spoke the same language and had the same customs and rituals. According to Procopius, "they occupied most of the lands of modern Ukraine and Poland." The territory inhabited by the Slavs stretched to the Vistula in the north and to the Dniester in the east. The resettlement of the Sławinens from the settled areas in the 5th-7th centuries led to the partial depopulation of these territories and the leaving of only small settlements.
This makes it possible for researchers of the Carpathian region to talk about the actual desolation of this territory. The second wave of migration from the Carpathians dates back to the ninth century, when the Slavic tribe of Croats left the mountains and moved to the Balkans. The settlement in the valley of the Manyavka River on the site of the Boyky farm near the waterfall can be attributed to this time. The legend of the village's foundation testifies to this: "A long time ago, people came here, asked for work, registered them here, and the locals were called Boyky."

Back in the 19th century, the vast lands of the Dobroslavychi boyars attracted various animals with their beauty and abundance. It can be assumed that there was a settlement of hunters who hunted animals, because the Galicia-Volyn principality at that time was engaged in the upholstery trade in Western Europe and Byzantium.
Different versions of the origin of the name "boyky" as an ethnic group of Ukrainians explain the question to some extent, but do not provide an answer. As early as 1841, I. Vahylevych authored a version of the origin of the ethnic name "Boyky," which was supported by O. Partytskyi. The essence of the hypothesis, which has not been refuted to this day and is associated with certain historical events, was that the name "Boyky" was derived from the name of the remote Celtic tribes of the Boyky, who at the beginning of the new era inhabited European territories adjacent to the lands of modern Boykivshchyna. In 1836, Ivan Vahylevych traveled to the Carpathians in search of monuments of the White Croatian tribes. According to legend, he also visited Maniava, where he was shown the "Blessed Stone" - he assumed that it could be a man-made shrine of the Slavic cult of the pre-Christian period.

In the "Pitushky" tract, which belongs to the village of Markova, stones were found stacked in the shape of a famous Celtic temple in England. Although it is difficult to talk about its natural origin, this would to some extent clarify the question of the settlement of Manyava. On the territory of the village of Manyava there is a farm "Boyky" and this name goes back to time immemorial and pushes back the date of the settlement's foundation on the territory of the village of Manyava and makes it one of the oldest settlements in the Carpathians. The ethnic originality of the Boikos was determined primarily by the specifics of their economic activity, mainly agriculture, which has been preserved to this day in terms of the development of unused land. In the oldest metric book kept in the Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God at the end of the 18th century and beginning of the 19th century, the most common surname was Boichuk, i.e. a descendant of Boyko. In the 50s of the 20th century, the "History of Towns and Villages of the Ukrainian SSR" was compiled. Here, under the name Manyava, we see that it consisted of two administrative units: the village of Manyava and the village of Boyky. This administrative division was recorded from the words of old-timers who said that the "Maniava Skyt" - a monastery - was founded near the village of Boyky. The name of the settlement of the village dates back to the princely times of Kievan Rus, and therefore we can talk about the time frame of our message in the modern village of Manyava. From all of the above, we can conclude that the settlement in the village of Manyava is one of the oldest in the Carpathians and its history goes back to ancient times.

In 1982, a forest reserve of national importance, the Maniava Skete, was created around the monastery. The reserve is valuable because of a small area (1 hectare) of an old 300-year-old plantation of Polish larch. The height of individual trees reaches 35-40 meters. The larch plantation is valuable as a forest seed plot and one of the oldest monuments of silvicultural business in the Ukrainian Carpathians.
The hiking route to the Manyava waterfall lasts 40 minutes and is 5 km long (marker: blue stripe on a white background). The route begins at the end of the village of Manyava, then runs along a dirt road, crossing the Manyavka River in several places, and later goes up a little bit, almost to the local natural monument - Manyava Waterfall.
