Crafts and workshops in the Carpathians
Hutsul, Boyko and Transcarpathian lands have long been known for their crafts: colourful Kosiv ceramics, woollen lizhnyk blankets, block-printed fabric, woodcarving, inlay, embroidery and pysanky (decorated Easter eggs). Many artisans work at home or in small studios and gladly show how a piece is born — from clay or wool to the finished item.
At a workshop you can try the potter’s wheel yourself, paint a plate, weave on a loom or decorate an egg. It is a great plan for a rainy day or a trip with children, and something you made with your own hands is the best memory of the Carpathians.
Tip: workshops usually need booking and are held for small groups, lasting from one to several hours. Buying directly from artisans supports the living tradition rather than mass-produced souvenirs.
