Natalia Kobrynska Museum (a branch of the Roman Skvoriy Museum), Bolekhiv

The city of Bolekhiv has a museum of the famous Ukrainian writer Natalia Kobrynska, founded in 2005. The museum is a branch of the Bolekhiv Historical Museum. The museum was created on the initiative of local historian and librarian Roman Skvoriy, who had been working for a long time to collect materials about the life and work of Natalia Kobrynska. At first, he established a memorial corner in the city dedicated to the writer's work. Over time, a room was set aside in the local library where memorabilia and creative works of N. Kobrynska were kept. The exposition in the library room was open during 1950-1964.

Olha Duchymynska, a teacher of the Tyapcha school, also made a significant contribution to the perpetuation of the writer's memory.

Natalia Kobrynska was not only a famous Ukrainian writer, but also an ardent feminist, a fighter for women's rights and gender equality in society. She lived in Bolekhiv for about 30 years, where she wrote most of her literary and critical works on topical issues of the society of the time, as well as several works for the future collection Fairy Tales.

2005 was named the year of Natalia Kobrynska in Bolekhiv. On October 16, 2005, a new room was opened with an exhibition about the famous Galician writer and public figure Natalia Kobrynska, which contains the following sections:

  • "Beleluia";
  • "Bolekhiv in the time of Natalia Kobrynska";
  • "Natalia Kobrynska among her contemporaries";
  • "Memorial corner";
  • "Bolekhiv honors the memory of the writer;
  • "Natalia Kobrynska and the Sich Riflemen";
  • "Natalia Kobrynska and Ivan Franko".

The Natalia Kobrynska Museum now stands across the town's main road. If we turn to the history of the building itself, it was originally a Jewish synagogue. Since the 1970s, it has housed the workshop of Bolekhiv School No. 1. In the 90s of the 20th century, a monument to the writer was erected to the left of the main entrance, a bas-relief surrounded by small flower beds.

The museum collection consists of memorabilia related to the life and work of N. Kobrynska. It includes: letters, essays, literary works, wall portraits of the writer, furniture of those times, handmade towels.

The museum in Bolekhiv has the status of a historical monument and belongs to the memorial museums. Admission to the museum is free, you can visit it any day of the week, except Saturday.

The museum is included in the list of objects checked for accessibility for people with special needs.
