Folk Museum of Ethnography and Life, Sajava

The Museum of Ethnography and Life, located in the village of Sadzhava, is a real calling card of Ivano-Frankivsk region. Since its inception in 1989, the museum has grown to 9 halls, which display original items of culture, art and everyday life of local residents. The exception is an ancient stove, which is a skillfully made model.

Seven years after its opening (i.e. in 1996), the museum was also called the Folk Museum. The expositions of the museum of ethnography in Sajava were organized and opened by the headmaster of the local school, Vasyl Moroz; he also became its director. The exhibits, which currently number more than 4,000, were brought in by residents of Sajava.

The exposition is quite wide and consists of three dozen sections, including "History of the village," "Products of folk craftsmen," "Rural crafts," "Children's toys of the 19th-20th centuries," "Holidays and rituals. Development of Culture in the Village" and other equally interesting sections. Here you can see the oldest exhibit - a cross carved from wood in 1516; a door made in 1840 without nails; a cradle in 1900; as well as a lot of tools: a wooden plow, a harrow, a threshing chain, a millstone and other exhibits.

Part of one of the halls recreates the interior of a room with typical items of traditional peasant housing: a huge chest for storing clothes, a stove, and a long family table. Entrance to the museum and guided tours are free of charge, but voluntary donations are welcome.

The Museum of Ethnography and Rural Life has long been a center for the exchange of experience between teachers from Ternopil, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions; in addition, the museum is one of the routes of cultural and educational tourism.
