Hungarian stones (Hungarian rocks), Green

The Hungarian Rocks or Hungarian Stones are an array of four huge vertical rocks in the middle of the forest, which rise above the spruce forest. It is a fantastic place on the western slope of Mount Skupova, the highest mountain of the Krynta ridge in the Hryniava Mountains (Carpathians, Verkhovyna district of Ivano-Frankivsk region). When you look at these massive rocks standing in the middle of the forest and propping up the sky, you can't help but feel that they are of unearthly origin, because they look incredibly mystical.

The "Hungarian Stones" differ quite a bit in their "architecture", but in general, the rocks are similar to the Ternoshorsk and Sokil rocks. According to an ancient Carpathian tradition, on top of one of the giant rocks there is a stone that looks like a human head. Most of the rocks are hidden in the forest and are difficult to find and see from afar. Therefore, marking this route would be very appropriate.

It is also worth knowing that the stones are scattered at a fairly large distance from each other, so you need to spend half a day to see everything. Some of the stones are accessed through a burel, while other rocks are reached by well-trodden paths. Don't try to climb up to the stone on top of the cliff (human head) - it looks easy only at first glance, but it's a big problem to get down (even for a climber).

Unfortunately, the main tourist potential of the rocks is not used. After all, there are no climbing trails (paved with cobblestones) there. There were two old trails, but they are already destroyed and do not inspire confidence, and it is impossible to safely go up to the top for hitching. I would like to go back there again, but with climbing systems.

The rocks stretch in a kind of rectangle through the forest for quite a long time, and from time to time there are gaps between them, as if they were connections between wagons. The last "stone carriage" is striking in scale and size. Only this pencil-shaped spire is visible from a great distance because the stones are higher than the surrounding trees. But from a distance it looks quite small. When you get directly to the foot of the rock, it impresses with its size.

In general, it is about 16 km from the Krynta meadow to Skupova and the Hungarian rocks, and about 5 km to the village of Zelene. Huge wooden crosses of unknown purpose stretch along the road to the village of Zelene, but you can navigate well by them.
