Fountain on Vicheva Square, Ivano-Frankivsk

Vicheva Square (Soviet Square in Soviet times, before that it was Kratterovka Square, named after Austrian Francis Kratter for his contribution to the development of the city) in Ivano-Frankivsk is known for its musical fountain, which has been modified three times since its construction.

Built and opened in the early 50s of the 20th century, it looked like a seven-sided reservoir with a bowl decorated with ears of grain in the middle.

By the end of the 1960s, a telephone and telegraph station building was built on this site, and the fountain turned into a rectangular pool with a wrought-iron lattice with deer silhouettes on it. However, the locals did not like it, and a new, ennobled version was presented to the townspeople in 1981. The fountain had two bowls at different heights and was decorated with forged images of various sea creatures.

The third - modern - version of the fountain was designed under the direction of the chief city architect Orest Kos. Its opening took place on August 21, 2004, and was timed to coincide with Ukraine's Independence Day. The structure is a round pool with a bowl, under which you can stand and admire the waterfall in front of you.

At night, the fountain shimmers with different colors and "dances" to musical compositions. The cascades pulsating to the music have made Vicheva Square a favorite meeting and walking place for Ivano-Frankivsk residents.

Christmas nativity scenes and mass festivities are traditionally held on the square, and a Christmas tree is erected here on New Year's Eve, as well as large-scale festive concerts, rallies and political actions. Vicheva Square, with its famous fountain, stretches from Halytska Street to Vitovskoho Street and is a direct continuation of Nezalezhnosti Street.
