Prague Bank
At the beginning of the 20th century, the development of Lviv led to the development of various areas. To support sustainable development, more banks had to be opened. The most famous and reputable of the banks was the Prague Credit Bank. Even before it was built, it was treated with special attention; the bank was supposed to symbolize strength and stability. The bank's appearance in Lviv was connected with the oil industry in Galicia. It contributed to the expansion of branches. The bank's management founded a joint stock company. The bank lent money for the delivery of wood in Galicia and provided funds for the exploitation of forests. The bank also provided considerable support to Galician firms and factories engaged in brick production. The house was built in 1911-1912. The architect of this beautiful building was Matvii Bleha. The creative idea and competition project belonged to Władysław Derdacki and Witold Minkiewicz.
The building is "L" shaped, five-story, with vertical lines on the facade, which gives the impression of simplicity and elegance. At the top of the bank is a dome that serves as a decoration. The construction of the dome is considered to be the first step towards the Art Deco style. On the facade, you can see numerous bas-reliefs by the sculptor Codet. They clearly show the features of Secession, such as rhythmic compositions and biology. Birds, rams, and lions can be found among the curls of the scenery. Human images are also used to emphasize the idea of the building's purpose. Furniture, stained-glass windows, and the arrangement of administrative premises have been preserved from the time of the bank's construction. Currently, it is impossible to see all the interiors, as it is a financial institution, so we can only enjoy what is on the photos.
