Ivano-Frankivsk Historical and Memorial Museum of Oleksa Dovbush

The museum was opened in September 1995, and in 1997 it was granted state status. The exposition is made up of the most interesting historical materials from the times of the Oprishkiv movement and artworks dedicated to the national avenger Oleksa Dovbush.

The museum's exposition is based on materials from the private collection of the famous Ukrainian historian, professor, academician, Doctor of Historical Sciences Volodymyr Hrabovetskyi. These include originals and copies of court records, act materials on the history of socio-economic relations, works by poets, prose writers, playwrights, composers, artists, and filmmakers.

The museum consists of two exhibition halls. The first hall begins with a stand dedicated to the museum's founder Volodymyr Hrabovetskyi. The next exposition is dedicated to the Galicia-Volyn principality. The stands contain materials about the uprising of the peasants of Prykarpattia in 1490-1492 against noble Poland under the leadership of Mukha, and the battle of Rohatyn in 1490. Pictures of the struggle of the population led by Semen Vysoczan and Ivan Hrabivsky in 1648 are on display.

The second hall exhibits materials that reveal the socio-economic preconditions for the rise of the Oprishko movement led by Oleksa Dovbush; written documents, maps, diagrams, as well as paintings and sculptures illustrate the situation in Galicia in the first half of the eighteenth century. A prominent place in the exposition of the second hall of the museum is occupied by a painting by artist V. Masiutkin-Cherkess "Oleksa Dovbush in Chornohora." Interesting exhibits in the museum include various types of weapons, clothing, and some items belonging to the opryshky. The last showcase displays fiction about Oleksa Dovbush and the opryshky.

Oleksa Dovbush, like no one else, deeply entered the oral folk art, inspired many writers, poets, artists, and composers to work, and he became a legend during his lifetime. On the museum's windows and stands, the viewer will get acquainted with documents and scientific works about the Oprishkiv movement in Prykarpattia, as well as with artworks dedicated to Oleksa Dovbush. The exhibition features a commemorative bronze medal with a bas-relief image of Oleksa Dovbush.

One of the most valuable exhibits is Oleksa Dovbush's axe. This relic has been cherished for more than two centuries by the Kosmach residents, descendants of the witnesses to Oleksa's death, as well as a valuable exhibit - a manuscript of the literary script by Liubomyr Dmyterko and Viktor Ivanov for the movie Oleksa Dovbush.

Oleksa Dovbush is a legendary hero of the Carpathians, one of the leaders of the Oprishko movement, who fought for the liberation of the peasantry. The museum displays documents and scientific works about the Oprishko movement in the Carpathian region, the legendary Dovbush axe, which has been kept for two centuries by the descendants of witnesses to the death of the Oprishko.
