Museum of History and Local Lore, Vynnyky
The town of Vynnyky has a rich history. It was first mentioned in 1352 in Polish chronicles. The city became the cradle for many important milestones in the country's history. The Historical and Local History Museum of Vynnyky was established by the decision of the Vynnyky City Council of the first democratic convocation in 1991. The permanent exhibition was opened on September 4, 1994, and in 1996 the museum received the status of a regional museum. Initially, it united private collections. Today the museum has about 14 thousand different exhibits. The museum is divided into several sections: archeology, medieval and modern history, resettlement from Lemkivshchyna and others.
The museum's archaeological collection reflects the history of the city and its surroundings since ancient times. The household items exhibited in the archeology department belong to the cultures of Linear-Band Ceramics (5th millennium BC from the Lazky tract), Landelian culture (4th millennium BC from the Torgovytsia site), funnel-shaped dishes, and Trypillian culture (3rd millennium BC from the towns of Zhupan and Lysivka). An interesting discovery of the museum is a treasure of 39 items of bronze and white metal. It belongs to the Halstatt-Lathenian period, which covers the chronological framework of the Late Bronze Age - Early Iron Age cultures (first millennium BC).
In 2019, the renovated museum presented archaeological artifacts from the Western region of Ukraine, including, in particular, a "Viking sword," one of the three cauldrons in the world depicting Svebsk warriors, a fragment of stone tiles with a "smiley face," and other unique artifacts.
The exposition department "History of Vynnyky in the 14th and early 20th centuries" displays old prints, wood carvings, originals and photocopies of documents that testify to the origin and development of the city and the region. The hall "Prominent People" presents personal belongings, photographs and documents of personalities our city is proud of: Minister of Religions Ogienko, famous public figure V.Levytskyi, Minister of the Ukrainian People's Republic I. Lypa, doctor Y. Nahliak, writers K. Hrynevychova and M. Sopilka, historians M. Kernytskyi and M. Vloch, opera singer O. Lubych-Parakhoniak, artists M. Fediuk, I. Banakh-Tverdokhlib, and T. Levkiv. Finds from the Vynnyky Castle, a tobacco factory, antique household items, and religious objects are on display. Interesting exhibits include a collection of old printed books of the XVII-XIX centuries and sculptures by F. Stuflisser (XIX century) and Olenskyi (XVIII century). Since its opening, the museum has hosted numerous exhibitions of prominent Ukrainian artists (O. Skop, Y. Manyshyn, P. Sypnyak, T. Levkiv, I. Banakh-Tverdokhlib, and others), as well as meetings with renowned scholars in the field of archeology and anthropology. Together with researchers from the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, a number of scientific expeditions are organized annually to explore historical cultural monuments in Vynnyky and the surrounding villages. Since 1998, the museum has had a department of deported Ukrainians from Nadsyannya, Lemkivshchyna, Kholmshchyna, and Podlasie. During this time, researchers have collected about 1,500 exhibits related to the lives of deported Ukrainians (documents, photographs, printed and periodicals, household items, and artwork), and organized ten thematic exhibitions.
Ethnographic expeditions are organized annually to collect exhibits related to this tragedy. Today, the museum has established close contacts and cooperation with the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada and America, as well as with the branches of regional and regional societies "Nadsiannia," "Kholmshchyna," "Lemkivshchyna," and "Liubachivshchyna" in Ukraine.
According to a presidential decree, a museum of life and culture of ethnic Ukrainians of Nadsyannya, Kholmshchyna, Lemkivshchyna, and Podlasie is to be opened at the Historical and Local Lore Museum in the city of Vynnyky, Lviv Oblast. The City Council of Vynnyky allocated 1.5 hectares of land on Sheptytskoho Street for the construction of the only museum complex in Ukraine and abroad dedicated to the life and culture of ethnic Ukrainians deported from Zakerzonia.
The museum's staff has been repeatedly awarded certificates of honor by the Regional State Administration and the Department of Culture of the Regional State Administration.
International scientific seminars, symposiums and conferences are held annually on the basis of the museum of the KZ LOR "Historical and Local History Museum", within the framework of which thematic exhibitions are organized. The issues are determined by leading scholars in accordance with the topical issues of modern historical science. To date, the museum has hosted nine international scientific conferences, attended by researchers from various scientific centers of Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Georgia, Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Germany and other countries.
The Historical and Local History Museum is involved in the organization of various cultural events and festivals. Among the events, there are many festivals that have an annual status, have proven themselves in terms of organization and are very popular among the residents of Vynnyky, Lviv, and the Lviv region in general.
These events include the Cheese and Brynza Festival, the Honey Autumn Festival, and the Nativity Scene Festival.
The events are full of not only concerts and presentations, fair spirit, but also additional opportunities for participation for different age groups of visitors in master classes, which, by the way, are always very popular among children and teenagers.
Opening hours: 10:00-17:00, Saturday is a day off. Entrance fees: 40 UAH for adults, 30 UAH for students, 20 UAH for pupils. Guided tours cost 40 UAH for adults, 30 UAH for students and pupils.
