Heppner's house
It is one of the landmarks of residential Renaissance architecture in Lviv. The building has received several names: Doctors', Dominikivska, and Hepnerivska. The foundation was laid in the 14th century. In the 16th century, the building was rebuilt and has survived to this day. In 1610, Pavlo Hepner, a doctor of medicine, settled there. In 1765, buttresses were added. Latin moralistic sayings are carved on the facade. Ivan Pidkova spent the night before his execution in the house that used to stand on this spot. Ivan Pidkova was one of the leaders of the Zaporizhzhia Cossacks, a Moldovan landowner, and a hero of the Ukrainian and Moldovan peoples.
A three-story brick house. The asymmetrical interior layout and Gothic buttresses have been preserved. The portal in the interior on the second floor is Renaissance in character. The smooth plastered façade adorns the portal and window frames. The house is a striking example of medieval architecture. The entire building is covered with Latin proverbs. Today, Lviv's polychromy has been restored, and we can enjoy the colors of the buildings, including the Heppner House. It is not the color that attracts tourists, but the inscriptions on the building. Due to this interesting decoration, the house is called the "house with aphorisms".
