The city was first mentioned in Hungarian documents in 1399. The name of the city may have been derived from the surname of the magnate Perech (mentioned in documents from 1266).
Distance to Uzhhorod: 21 km.
Population: about 7,000 people.
Perechyn (7800 inhabitants) cannot be said to be a very touristy center. But if you are passing by the city, don't just drive by, take a walk. After all, here, as almost everywhere else in Ukraine, you will find something interesting.
Not much has survived from the old days. There is, for example, the stone St. Nicholas Church, built in 1769. It is ancient, yes. But, unfortunately, it cannot be called original. After all, 95% of Transcarpathian stone churches are the same. Although the church is located very picturesquely on a hill. And the bell tower is very interesting. Now the church belongs to the Orthodox, but once it was Greek Catholic.
There is also an old Catholic church here. It is not in the center, but on the outskirts of the city towards Uzhhorod. It is a nice but typical church of St. Augustine, built in 1906.
But the Greek Catholic Church of St. Nicholas, built recently in the very center of the city, stands out the most. The temple is huge and pompous, but how beautiful and majestic its towers look against the background of the surrounding hills!
In 2008, a calvary was opened here, a symbolic way of the cross that begins near Mount Gurka (apparently symbolizing Calvary) and ends at its summit. Elements of the way of the cross are visible from afar.
In addition, Perechyn has old buildings from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
