Csetfalva (Hungarian: Csetfalva, in Soviet times - Chetovo) is a Magyar village in Berehove district of Zakarpattia region, located on the right bank of the Tisza river, near the border with Hungary.
According to legend, the name of the village came from the name of its founder, the landowner Chet, who owned the land during the reign of the Arpadovych dynasty.
The village was owned by different feudal lords, and sometimes even by several. But in the 15th century, the surrounding lands were owned by the landowners Pal Sejci and György Jakab.
In 1566, Chetfalva was ravaged by the Tatars, and some of the inhabitants were enslaved.
In 1998 and 2001, the village was severely damaged by floods. The largest protective dam in Transcarpathia, 20 meters high, was built here.
The village has preserved a 15th-century Gothic Reformed church and the highest wooden frame bell tower in Transcarpathia of the 17th century, which has no equal among wooden structures of this kind in Ukraine.
Nearby, the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit (1998-2001) was built in modernist forms, which is used alternately by the Roman Catholic and Greek Catholic communities of the village.
The interior of the church is decorated with carved crucifixes, chalices, candlesticks, and a pulpit.
An unprepared tourist will be confused by the Berehove district of Zakarpattia: when he or she sees duplicated street names in Hungarian and Ukrainian, two flags on the village council - blue and yellow and white-red-green - when he or she asks for directions, and in response, only the surprised eyes of the local Magyars who do not understand Ukrainian at all... But in Cetfalva (Chetovo on Soviet maps), the traveler will be completely lost. First of all, the rural buildings do not give you the impression that you are in Ukraine - it is a Hungarian village and that's all (in fact, it is about a kilometer from the border). Secondly, the buildings in the central square of the village are astonishing - each of them is a typical "strange sight"
